Moscow Theological Seminary: Conference Center
Update, April 2012:
Peter Mitskevich, MTS President, continues to
research strategies and options for this possible expansion to the campus. We are working with
a second architect who has expertise in the permit granting process with the
various government agencies. He is assessing Seminary’s options and Peter hopes
to have some specifics for the Executive Committee meeting in June.
Development plans are in the
works for a conference center with seating for 400 people. This will address pressing space needs
as Moscow Theological Seminary’s building in Moscow is used extensively by the
Seminary as well as by two churches and the Russian Baptist Union. We are still
getting estimates but we expect it to be several hundred thousand dollars.
The MTS Board appointed a
committee to advise on the planning for this significant project. The Executive Committee conducted a
Prayer Walk of the property to dedicate the exploration process including: wisdom
on how to proceed, discussions with the authorities and for the resources to
make it a reality. Please join the committee in these prayers. More than ever
the MTS Board is convinced of the significant value this facility will provide
for strengthening the Seminary’s leadership of the churches in Russia.
In this regard, our Greek
professor, Dr. Gennadi Savin stated,
“MTS is becoming the spiritual center of the
Russian Baptist Union not just the educational center.”
We rejoice at God’s
blessing on the Seminary’s ministry and President Peter Mitskevich’s leadership in particular.
Leninsk-Kuznetsky Learning Center
We have three cohorts
functioning at our Leninsk-Kuznetsky Learning Center, which is a strategic
location for Moscow Theological Seminary. Classes meet in a local church, which
keeps the overhead costs low for students. However, the church needs some basic
updating to provide space for this growing student body.
