Welcome from Chaplain Nickolai Kornilev from Russian Leadership on Vimeo.
Praise God for...
- The signed title to MTS's Moscow building! This is an answer to years of prayer! This fully legalizes the ownership of the building by the Seminary. Many churches and the Russian Baptist Union have been unable to gain this legal standing. It truly is a miracle and an amazing
evidence of God’s hand on MTS.
- Growth in our Church-State Relations program.
The newest venue is the Golgotha Church Center. The Seminary has received numerous requests for the material in this
program from the most remote regions of Russia, so the program is now also offered as an online course. The course opened in January 2012 with 18
students.
- The Bible Conference in Omsk sponsored by the Seminary was a tremendous success. Over 1,000 people attended and the plenary presentations were streamed live. Representing MTS were Peter and Drs. Sannikov and Sergienko. One or two others are planned for this year and Peter has received many requests to repeat these from many other cities and regions.
MTS faculty member Dr.
Alexander Popov, for his recent completion of his PhD in Theology from University
of Wales through the International Baptist Theological Seminary in Prague.
- Our Rostov on Don Learning Center, which will soon purchase a building and has added another cohort. Their enrollment is nearly 40 students, double from a year ago.
- The successful start of 3 new programs in 2011.
- The freedom to have and study the Bible.
Please pray for...
- The renewal of the Seminary’s education license from the federal Ministry of Education. The numerous required documents are due in early 2013. Please pray God grants our license without complications.
-
The Alumni Research project, which
is underway. So far over 1300
alumni have been confirmed dating back to the early 90’s for both MTS and MTI. There are only a couple years of
missing data.
This project is in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the Seminary's founding, in the Fall of 1993.
The data from the study will provide the opportunity for the Seminary to more effectively communicate
with and create a community of alumni. Second, it will provide hard data for assessing the effectiveness
of the curriculum. Third, the telephone interviews of the most significant graduates will be compiled into a
book to be published under the working title of "Heroes of the Faith."
The construction of a new conference center. Please join the MTS Executive Committee in praying for wisdom
on how to proceed, discussions with the authorities and for the resources to
make it a reality. More than ever
the MTS Board is convinced of the significant value this facility will provide
for strengthening the Seminary’s leadership of the churches in Russia.
In this regard, our Greek
professor, Dr. Gennadi Savin stated,
“MTS is becoming the spiritual center of the
Russian Baptist Union not just the educational center.”
We rejoice at God’s
blessing on the Seminary’s ministry and President Peter Mitskevich’s leadership in particular.
- MTS is launching a pilot program of regional bible conferences in the Siberian city of Omsk. The goal is to offer enrichment programs for laity in the regions, as well as reinforce MTS’ role as the leader for theological study in Russia and in the Russian Baptist Union. Pray that we meet the needs of the evangelical church across vast Russia!
- Work continues on the Slavic Bible Commentary! Several of our MTS faculty are working on this Russian commentary, due out in 2015. Please pray for the authors and editors and that the commentary will foster a better understanding of the Bible, greater biblical competence in churches, and improved preaching quality in local churches.
- Physical, emotional and spiritual health for our staff, faculty and their families, and wisdom in balancing life in the ministry. Pray our community stays strong and faithful to the Lord, and that priorities are kept straight. You can pray for our cohorts currently in session.
- On January 1, 2011 a new tax law went into effect increasing the MTS taxes by 20%. Pray we overcome this new financial hurdle.
- God's wisdom and passion for professors and students. Pray that their love for Jesus will be growing and transparent.
- The physical needs of our seminary students and their families.
- Wisdom to know how to strengthen the Church for ministry in the modern Russian context.
- Please pray for MTS President Peter Mitskevich’s new efforts to develop Moscow Theological Seminary and for wisdom as he looks for assistants to lead the ministry. We want “to know Christ and to let Him be known.” Download the Spring 2012 or Fall 2011 Prayer Letter from President Peter Mitskevich.
